Real Client Outcomes

A Real Story From Townsville

Outcome:3 Policies Paid

Karen was a 43-year-old retail assistant from Townsville who had been living with circumstances that made continuing work increasingly difficult.

While receiving the Disability Support Pension, Karen had no idea she also had TPD insurance through her superannuation.

When Karen came to Thrive Claims, our team investigated her superannuation history and uncovered something she never knew existed: three separate TPD policies that could potentially be relevant to her circumstances.

We helped Karen navigate the requirements for each claim, managed the process with her and worked through the paperwork and evidence needed along the way. All three TPD claims were successfully approved and paid.

Karen didn't know those policies existed. Thrive Claims found them.

TPD & Income Protection Support for Queenslanders

If you're a Queenslander who has stopped working, or is struggling to remain at work due to illness or injury, you may be entitled to a Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) lump-sum benefit and, in some circumstances, Income Protection payments through your superannuation. This may apply regardless of where you live or work in Queensland, and whether your illness or injury occurred at work or elsewhere.

Thrive Claims helps Queenslanders investigate potentially relevant insurance cover, understand the requirements of their policy and navigate the claims process from beginning to end, supporting clients throughout Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Townsville, Cairns, Toowoomba, Rockhampton and regional and remote Queensland.

If you receive the Disability Support Pension (DSP) or participate in the NDIS, you may still have TPD insurance through your superannuation. Depending on your circumstances and the terms of your cover, you may be able to pursue a TPD claim.

Your Previous Super Funds May Hold More Than You Realise

Over the course of your working life, you may have changed employers, switched superannuation funds or accumulated more than one super account. Insurance cover can sometimes be attached to these accounts, meaning your current super fund may not tell the whole story.

This is particularly important if you've worked for multiple employers or haven't reviewed your superannuation and insurance arrangements for some time. You may have held TPD or other insurance cover through a previous fund without ever needing to use it.

At Thrive Claims, we can investigate your superannuation history and help identify potentially relevant insurance cover. Our team can then explain what may be available and what the next steps could look like based on your circumstances.

You don't need to work through the process on your own. We can handle the investigation and claims process for you, giving you a clearer understanding of what cover may be available without the stress of navigating it yourself.

Across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, a period away from work can prompt a closer look at the insurance attached to superannuation. If illness or injury has changed your longer-term ability to work, Total & Permanent Disability claims may deserve investigation. Our superannuation insurance claims service helps you explore what cover may apply, alongside an income protection claim if your policy provides benefits during temporary incapacity. A history of different jobs may also mean multiple super fund claims need to be considered under more than one policy. Thrive Claims' services for insurance and super claims can bring these enquiries into one review without assuming every account holds payable cover.

Queenslanders do not need a workplace accident before it is reasonable to check TPD insurance. Treatment for a serious diagnosis, persistent pain or psychological symptoms can affect the duties you can sustain in Toowoomba, Townsville or elsewhere in the state. Your evidence may relate to a physical injury or illness claim, a mental health TPD claim, or a combination of limitations. Queensland workers compensation, including cover through WorkCover Queensland, is a separate pathway; a TPD enquiry still turns on the relevant insurance terms and your work capacity.

People receiving the Disability Support Pension or accessing NDIS-funded support may have insurance worth investigating, although those support arrangements do not decide TPD eligibility. If a motor accident has prevented you from continuing work, the insurance question should also be distinguished from any accident compensation enquiry. Thrive Claims can assist remotely across Cairns and Far North Queensland, Rockhampton and Central Queensland, and regional or rural communities where travelling to Brisbane would be difficult.

WorkCover Queensland and TPD Claims Are Different

If your injury happened at work, you may already be receiving payments through WorkCover Queensland. These payments and a TPD claim are generally separate matters.

Workers compensation relates to your workplace injury and may include benefits such as weekly payments and medical expenses. A TPD claim, on the other hand, relates to insurance cover held through your superannuation and may provide a separate lump-sum benefit if you meet the relevant policy requirements.

Depending on your circumstances and the terms of your cover, you may be able to pursue a TPD claim while also receiving workers compensation benefits. Living in regional Queensland does not prevent you from making a TPD claim, and you don't need to travel to the capital to access support.

If you're unsure whether your existing workers compensation claim and superannuation insurance could both apply to your circumstances, our Claims Specialists can discuss your situation with you confidentially.
