A Real Story From Surry Hills
Outcome:Income Protection + TPD Approved
Leanne was a 33-year-old accountant living and working in Surry Hills when an unfortunate incident on her way to work changed everything.
Following the incident, Leanne experienced significant PTSD, depression, anxiety and panic attacks. Her mental health deteriorated to the point where she was no longer able to continue working.
When Leanne came to Thrive Claims, she wasn't aware that she had Income Protection insurance through her superannuation. Our team helped Leanne identify her Income Protection cover, which provided valuable financial support while her circumstances were being addressed and her TPD claim was being progressed.
We then guided Leanne through the TPD claims process, helping manage the requirements and paperwork along the way. Leanne's TPD claim was successfully approved and paid, providing important financial support at a time when she needed it most.
For Leanne, finding the Income Protection cover first helped provide a financial bridge while her longer-term TPD claim was being processed.
TPD & Income Protection Support for NSW Residents
If you're a NSW Resident who has stopped working, or is struggling to remain at work due to illness or injury, you may be entitled to a Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) lump-sum benefit and, in some circumstances, Income Protection payments through your superannuation. This may apply regardless of where you live or work in New South Wales, and whether your illness or injury occurred at work or elsewhere.
Thrive Claims supports clients throughout New South Wales, from Sydney and Western Sydney to Newcastle, Wollongong, the Central Coast, the Hunter, the Illawarra and regional NSW. Our service can be provided remotely by phone, email and video.
If you receive the Disability Support Pension (DSP) or participate in the NDIS, you may still have TPD insurance through your superannuation. Depending on your circumstances and the terms of your cover, you may be able to pursue a TPD claim.
Your Previous Super Funds May Hold More Than You Realise
Over the course of your working life, you may have changed employers, switched superannuation funds or accumulated more than one super account. Insurance cover can sometimes be attached to these accounts, meaning your current super fund may not tell the whole story.
This is particularly important if you've worked for multiple employers or haven't reviewed your superannuation and insurance arrangements for some time. You may have held TPD or other insurance cover through a previous fund without ever needing to use it.
At Thrive Claims, we can investigate your superannuation history and help identify potentially relevant insurance cover. Our team can then explain what may be available and what the next steps could look like based on your circumstances.
You don't need to work through the process on your own. We can handle the investigation and claims process for you, giving you a clearer understanding of what cover may be available without the stress of navigating it yourself.
An illness or injury that interrupts working life can leave people in Sydney, Newcastle or Wollongong wondering whether their super contains insurance they have never used. Understanding TPD claims in New South Wales starts with the applicable policy and the effect of your condition on your working future. Thrive Claims' superannuation claims support can help you investigate that cover, while income protection benefits may be relevant when you are temporarily unable to earn an income, subject to policy requirements. If your employment has taken you between employers and funds, insurance claims across multiple super accounts may need separate investigation. Our range of claim services helps you consider those possibilities together.
For residents of Western Sydney, the Central Coast and the Hunter, the question is not simply whether an injury happened on the job. A condition may develop gradually or follow an event outside work, and limitations from physical injury and illness can exist alongside mental health conditions affecting work capacity. NSW workers compensation, regulated by SIRA, is distinct from TPD insurance: medical evidence and the definition in your policy guide the insurance assessment rather than participation in a workplace scheme alone.
Receiving DSP support or being an NDIS participant may be a reason to look more closely at your insurance position, not proof that a TPD benefit is payable. Similarly, work limitations following a motor vehicle accident can raise questions about super insurance as well as separate compensation. Whether you are based in the Illawarra, Central West, Riverina or a remote Far West community, Thrive Claims can help you review potential pathways remotely, with your own circumstances at the centre of the enquiry.

the SIRA-regulated workers compensation scheme and TPD Claims Are Different
If your injury happened at work, you may already be receiving payments through the SIRA-regulated workers compensation scheme. These payments and a TPD claim are generally separate matters.
Workers compensation relates to your workplace injury and may include benefits such as weekly payments and medical expenses. A TPD claim, on the other hand, relates to insurance cover held through your superannuation and may provide a separate lump-sum benefit if you meet the relevant policy requirements.
Depending on your circumstances and the terms of your cover, you may be able to pursue a TPD claim while also receiving workers compensation benefits. Living in regional New South Wales does not prevent you from making a TPD claim, and you don't need to travel to the capital to access support.
If you're unsure whether your existing workers compensation claim and superannuation insurance could both apply to your circumstances, our Claims Specialists can discuss your situation with you confidentially.
